Joe Gates has been around the Philly theatre and comedy scene since 2007 and is a proud member of the PHIT House Team Sabotage, directed by Fred Brown and winner of the Best Improv Group in the 2015 WitOut Philly Comedy Awards.
He graduated from Washington College where his focuses were Theatre, English and Creative Writing. Joe has been studying music and theatre since 1995 and doing improv since 2004. He has taken workshops with Jill Bernard, Joe Bill and Susan Messing.
Some of his past credits include directing and producing The Lonesome West, assistant director and dramaturg for The Last of the Boys and host and producer of Polygon Comedy and First Fridays Musical Comedy with Interrobang. He currently hosts and produces The Comedy Show Gates with Joe Gates. Joe was also a writer and actor in Pro-Mania! which won the Best Short Run Award in 2011 WitOut Awards. He performed on the Scripted and Fight Cast of the 2015 Philadelphia Renaissance Faire featuring Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson from HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Outside of PHIT, Joe is a passionate writer of the Gothic Horror tradition, a scholar of traditional folklore and a classically trained lyric tenor. Joe writes, produces is a consultant for independent rpgs and freelances as a stage manager and dramaturgist.
