Musical Improv: Students will build upon their knowledge of longform improv by learning how to heighten a scene through improvised song. In addition to learning the basic song structures and styles that are the foundation of musical improv, students will discover why these structures are necessary, and also how to use them as a tool for staying on the same page with fellow performers. Other topics covered will include: learning to sense who “gets” the song, beginnings and endings, not being a slave to the rhyme, how to split a song between two, three or more people, and when/why to break into song during a show.
