IMPROV INTENSIVES

PHIT Improv intensives give you the benefit of going through an entire PHIT level in a very short amount of time. A class that would normally meet once a week for eight weeks is condensed into meeting just a few days in one week! We also occasionally offer a full program intensive where you complete Improv levels 101 – 401 in just one month! Each intensive includes a pass for free admission to PHIT shows and access to improv practice groups, and a class graduation show.

Improv 102 – “Intro to Improv Practice Group”: Next to learning and watching, the best way to get better at improv is through practice. Designed as a supplement to a class (not a replacement), Improv 102 sessions line up with the PHIT Improv 101 curriculum – reinforcing the ideas taught in your class the previous week and exposing you to a variety of instructors from PHIT’s staff throughout each session. Each practice group includes warm-ups and scenework exercises that aim to strengthen and work the core improv concepts laid out in our Intro to Improvised Scenework class. Improv 102 is open to current Improv 101 students, as well as past graduates of Improv 101. PHIT’s Practice Groups are $5 with a current session student pass (just show your student card) and just $20 (cash only) at the door for anyone else who meets the prerequisites: no advance registration required. Click here for the schedule of upcoming practice groups.

Improv 201
“Intermediate Improv & Scenework Techniques”

In this class, students will work the skills they were previously introduced to with more targeted exercises the help them explore the concepts of character, relationship, and environment on stage more deeply. They will also learn how to recognize and build on patterns to advance their scenes. Students will begin to learn elements of structure for performance and create fully improvised scenes with more than two performers.

PHIT IMPROV CONSERVATORY

Through a series of exercises focused on personal attention, practice with various improv forms and styles, discussion of what they do and do not enjoy seeing on stage, eight (8) students selected from the pool of applicants to this Improv Conservatory class will spend 8-weeks creating a unique style for a run of their own at PHIT. During four weeks of shows at The Philly Improv Theater students will receive further feedback from their director, have the chance to watch recordings of their performances to improve their stage skills, and adjust their show as a group throughout a run.
