On Sunday, August 27th, PHIT will be holding auditions for two new improvised shows to debut in November! Oculum (directed by Molly Scullion) and Not Yet Rated: The Improvised Movie (directed by Mike Marbach) will be part of an expanded programming line-up coming to PHIT through October and November. For full details on each show read on. We hope to see you at auditions in a couple weeks or in the audience in November!

Directed by Molly Scullion

Oculem explores relationships, physicality and time through improv comedy. We will use improv and movement to embody the thoughts, feelings and ideas constantly running through our head. We will combine both grounded, relationship-driven scene work and the silliest fun in physicality to create an hour long improvised show. Oculum is inspired by a form created by Laura Doorneweerd (Amsterdam). Note: Though the audition will not require it, the show includes the potential for more physical contact. (Oculum will run on Friday nights starting in November 2017 through January 2018 with the potential to be extended .)

I did this form as a part of the Improvaganza International Ensemble in 2016, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. I am so thrilled to be doing this show because I think it pushes the concept of improv beyond just a good, funny show. This show tugs at your heartstrings and makes you think, all while making you laugh, a lot. It’s unlike anything else, but at its core, the show is incredibly human. I’m very, very excited to bring this show to Philly. ~ Molly Scullion

Not Yet Rated: The Improvised Movie
Directed By Mike Marbach

In a world filled with movies… this one has not been made yet. Each week the cast will embark on a mission some of them may not survive- to create a completely improvised movie right before your eyes. You give them the title, they give you the world. The classic characters, the mind blowing special effects, the dramatic score and something that resembles a plot! From the people who brought you Study Hall and Stay Dead!, it’s Not Yet Rated: The Improvised Movie. Coming soon. (Not Yet Rated will run Thursday nights starting in November 2017 through January 2018 with the potential to be extended.)

I’ve directed improvised horror comedies at PHIT for the past seven years and every year I get the itch to expand that form into a different genre. Doing the improvised movie on a weekly basis will allow us to explore a different genre in depth every couple months and even dive into fun sub-genres. Eventually the suggestion itself can include the genre of film the cast will perform. It’s a show that’s super accessible to an non improv savvy audience, while still allowing for a lot of classic improv moves. As a lover of film and improv, I could not be more thrilled to finally get to do this regularly. ~Mike Marbach
